To celebrate, here is a free pattern, from me! Nothing too complex, goes pretty quick.
Crochet Hat Pattern
The pattern has a girl section (which includes the flower and the little scallops at the bottom) and a boy section, which eliminates the flower and scallops and just has the open stitched pattern beanie.

The way I'm reading your pattern, it would just be dc all the way around, with no open stitches. How did you create the open stitches?
Also, what size hook did you use? What weight of yarn did you use?
